BENIN—HIS Royal Majesty, Oba Ewuare II, the Oba of Benin, yesterday sent a high powered delegation led by the Esere of Benin Kingdom, Chief Stanley Obamoyi, on a condolence visit to the family of the late former governor of old Bendel State, Dr Samuel Ogbemudia, lamenting that Benin Kingdom has lost one of its best brains. Other dignitaries who also paid condolence visits to the family include former governor of Rivers State, Dr Peter Odili, former Chairman, Police Service Commission, Pally Osayande, Prof. Greg Akenzua and the Edo Forum of Patriots, led by Mr Aiyemenkhue Edokpolo. Governor Godwin Obaseki and his deputy, Mr Philip Shaibu, were among those who witnessed the cultural troupes from Edo and Delta states, which entertained the public at the residents of the deceased as part of the burial activities. Chief Obamoyi, who led the delegation of the Oba to the Iheya residents of Dr Ogbemudia, handed the Oba’s condolence letter to the eldest son of the deceased, Sam Ogbemudia Jr, informing the family that Omo N’Oba is pained with the demise of the elder statesman who served meritoriously as a soldier and politician of repute in the country. In his tribute, Dr Odili, said, “You came and conquered. You left indelible material and human footprints which infact, will last forever. Rest in peace.”
